Cost
How much does a plumber cost in San Diego?
A drain cable typically runs $150-$450. Leak detection typically runs $250-$700. A tank water heater replacement typically runs $1,400-$3,200 installed. The plumber writes the price after seeing the house. Pipe Pro SD does not set it.
Do you charge to take the call?
No. Calling Pipe Pro SD does not create a bill from us. The plumber you hire bills you for the work.
Why do two plumbers quote different numbers?
Access, parts, and whether the job is a cable, a jet, a spot repair, or a repipe. Ask each one to say which of those they are pricing.
Leaks and heaters
What if the water heater pilot will not stay lit?
If it stays lit only while you hold the knob, the thermocouple is the usual cause. A repair typically runs $175-$450 when the rest of the heater is sound. If you smell gas, leave and call the gas company.
Does a water heater replacement need a permit?
Many cities in San Diego County, including the City of San Diego, require a permit for a water heater change-out. A storage heater also has to be strapped.
How do I know it is a slab leak?
The meter moves with every fixture off, the floor has a warm spot, or you hear water under the slab. Locate it before anyone cuts concrete. Detection typically runs $250-$700.
Drains
Should I snake a drain or hydro jet it?
A cable is right for one stop. A jet is right when the same line clogs again, because grease, scale, or roots are still on the pipe wall. A camera comes before a jet if the pipe may be broken.
The lowest drain is backing up. What is that?
That is usually the main line, not one fixture. A camera, typically $250-$550, shows roots, a belly, or a broken joint before you pay for a dig.
Can I use a chemical drain cleaner?
Skip it. It can sit in the line and burn the next person who opens the trap, and it rarely clears a main-line stop.
How this referral works
What does Pipe Pro SD actually do?
We take the plumbing call and connect you with a local plumber. We are not the contractor. The contract is with the plumber.
How do I check the plumber?
Look up the license at cslb.ca.gov and ask for a current insurance certificate before work starts. We do not claim to be the plumber of record.
What if I only reach voicemail?
Leave your name, the city, the address, and whether the water is shut off. This line plays a greeting and then takes a message.
Which cities do you cover?
San Diego County, from the coast to the backcountry. The city pages list the communities.
